Executed with his fast free flowing brush strokes and aerosoled lines, this painting on cardboard captures the very essence of a racing cyclist; the sweeping pedal and air drafting from the crown of his head contrast to the firm grip of his hands..

In the lower left hand corner of the painting, Neate has delicately sprayed an almost skeletal shadow of a seemingly riderless bike – the drop handlebars devoid of the gripping hands of the figure.

This subject was revisited by Neate in 2012 when he painted THE CYCLISTS as one of a series of wooden Dimensional Paintings, along with THE BOXERS and THE RUNNERS.
