ADAM NEATE ‘ANGUISH’ 2013 elms lesters

The kneeling figure is a subject that Neate revisits whenever he is challenged by a new medium. This painting, which is now in an important collection in Beijing, China, combines bent metalwork, creating shadaws and depth, with bold planes of board which abstract the figurative form.
The head is reminiscent of Neate’s iconic thrashing head portraits.
