‘Home Entertainment’ is a study of the impact of the digital world on our home lives and relationships. In this Neate can be seen with his wife in their living room, both distracted from each other’s company by electronic devices.
This theme was to be revisted in a number of later works, particularly ‘Social Recluse’ 2013 and ‘Reclining Nude’ 2013.
The composition incorporates many of Neate’s symbolic techniques, particulary the apperance of another room leading off from the far corner, with the exaggerated perspectives leading the viewer’s eye to the mirrored panel in the distance.
Carpet and leatherette introduce new textures, and behind the wooden louvre blinds fibre optics give tiny pinpoints of starlight outside.
